Transportation of Client Personal Belongings Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to protect employees, contractors, and company property from potential health, safety, and sanitation risks associated with transporting client belongings. While we strive to support families in transition with compassion and respect, we must also maintain safe standards to prevent infestations, contamination, and liability issues.

Scope

This policy applies to all Ignite Families LLC employees, contractors, and volunteers who may be involved in the transportation of client belongings during the course of providing services.

General Policy

Employees are not permitted to transport client belongings exceeding the size of a small backpack, purse, baby/diaper bag, or a small duffel bag that complies with TSA carry-on size restrictions (22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 x 36 x 23 cm) and weighs no more than 25 lbs. Under no circumstances may employees transport client weapons, firearms, or hazardous materials of any kind.

Prevention and Safety Procedures

  • Employees should visually inspect items before agreeing to transport them.
  • If items appear contaminated (e.g., roaches, bed bugs, or mold), employees must decline transport and notify their supervisor.
  • Employees are encouraged to use protective covers or bins when transporting small approved belongings.
  • Vehicles should be cleaned regularly to prevent infestation or contamination.

Staff & Client Communications

Employees must explain this policy to clients in a respectful manner, ensuring they understand that restrictions are in place to protect both staff and families. Staff should emphasize that small essential items may be transported, but larger household goods, furniture, or unsafe belongings cannot be moved by Ignite Families LLC personnel.

Enforcement

Any violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring staff compliance and addressing any incidents where belongings exceed allowable limits.
